Objectives:

To learn the story of The Odyssey and be able to retell the plot.

To identify the main characters and understand their characterization.

To identify and define epic, epic hero, myth, epithet, motif, foreshadowing, imagery, irony, character motivation, and other terms as assigned.

To identify and discuss the epic's main themes.

To compare prose and poetry versions of The Odyssey.

To understand the mythical world of the ancient Greek gods (mortals & immortals, gods & goddesses).

To understand the difference between Homer's world, the actual historical events, and the setting of the story of Odysseus.

To see connections and allusions in today's world.

To learn about the ancient world and the Greek Empire.
