Criteria for Assessment

• Reading must be from any piece of published writing of at least 30 lines in length. Passage must be approved beforehand.
• A copy of the reading must be turned in prior to the reading.
• Practice the reading and your presentation out loud ahead of time. The passage may be adapted if necessary.
• To practice your reading, go to the ESL office (Writing Center) and ask to use the tape recorder.
• Reading must be clearly articulated and with good volume and expression.
• Awareness of audience. But do not respond to comments from the audience during your reading.
• Sensitivity to subject (content) of the reading.
• Introduce the reading by giving title, author, and explaining the context. Do not read your introduction.
• There should be a meaningful point to the reading.
• Background music or art may be included. You are responsible for the technology.
• You will be graded primarily on the presentation and delivery of your reading, but the length and content of your reading will be taken into consideration.
